Focal Point Books offers writing assistance to those who may have problems writing to a professional level or to a level accepted by agents and in-house editors. These services are also available to writers experiencing writer's block, writers struggling with issues caused poor punctuation, grammar and/or syntax as well as to writers for whom English is a second language. The charge for writing assistance is $45.00/hr, which is subject to payment after each session is completed. Any research conducted into material specific to the assigned project is subject to the charge of $20.00/hr and is to be paid at the end of each session, or at the end of the next session booked if conducted outside session times. All work conducted outside session times is arranged by prior agreement. Payment amounts and times are open to negotiation prior to the commencement of each session. Writing assistance sessions are arranged at the convenience of both parties. These sessions are best conducted in person as some writing issues will need to be thoroughly examined and discussed.
, writers who have had their manuscripts rejected due to stylistic and structural problems and writers who would like to have their manuscript professionally edited before self-publication. These services are available for those with fiction and non-fiction book manuscripts, theses, journal articles, training material and newsletters. The charges for editing are $50.00 per hour with a maximum charge of $2,500.00 per manuscript (equivalent to 50 hours). Payments are due weekly or as negotiated . Advice concerning an estimated time-frame can be provided once a manuscript has been viewed. When editing, the time required varies due to the length of the document, the writer's response time to queries and the complexity of the subject matter.
A manuscript assessment can be a very a useful tool when undertaking the editing of a text by yourself. An assessment can be conducted by reading the manuscript in full or by reading a representative section of the text. Advice on stylistic matters, commercial viability, manuscript development as well as issues relating to copy and substantive editing are included in an assessment. The charges for manuscript assessments are $220.00 for a written report and meeting lasting up to 1 hour after reading a representative section of the text or $300.00 for a written report and meeting lasting up to 1 hour after reading the whole text. These charges are subject to payment on receipt of the manuscript assessment.
All documents should be formatted as follows:
- Typed
- Double spaced
- Wide margins (wide enough to make notes in)
- Page numbers (headers)
- Printed on white A4 paper if mailed
- Set out in Courier New font
- Electronic files should use Microsoft Word 2003 or earlier
